Modern transmissions are run by sensors, solenoids, and the vehicle's computer. A harsh shift or a hesitation can be an electronic or fluid problem long before it's a mechanical one — which is why testing first can save you thousands.
Fluid is the lifeblood here. Low fluid from a small leak, or fluid that's old and burnt, will make a healthy transmission act sick and make a sick one die fast. Catching a leak early is the cheapest transmission repair there is.

Is my transmission going out?

Will a fluid change help or hurt a high-mileage transmission?
It depends on its condition, and this one deserves an honest look rather than a rule of thumb. We'll check the fluid and the vehicle's history and tell you whether a service helps your situation — or whether it's better left alone.
Is a transmission leak urgent?
Yes, more than most leaks. Transmissions are far less forgiving of running low than engines are — a $100 leak fix ignored can become a transmission replacement. If you're seeing red fluid, get it in soon.
